An arrest is not always immediate in a DUI-related fatal accident

In Louisiana, accidents involving a fatality require law enforcement officials to obtain a blood sample to determine whether a driver was under the influence. Because it can take some time for the results of these tests to come back, charges may not be contemplated until a later date. In other cases, an individual suspected of being responsible for an accident may have suffered serious injuries that required hospitalization. Accordingly, an arrest may be delayed. For example, a man was only recently arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, DWI and careless operation in connection with a fatal accident that occurred back in March.

Preventing a car accident: The dangers of distracted driving

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) set aside this month to remind and educate drivers of the dangers of distracted driving. Anyone who has ever been seriously injured or lost a loved one in a car accident might agree that if these efforts prevent even one unnecessary accident, then it was worth it.

Pedestrian suffered catastrophic injuries when struck by car

At times, pedestrians are forced to put themselves in harm's way. Even if they are careful, the unpredictability of vehicles and their drivers on Louisiana roadways makes it difficult to avoid every hazard. Pedestrian vs. motor vehicle accidents often result in the victims suffering catastrophic injuries, particularly since they are virtually unprotected.

Driver charged with vehicular homicide in fatal accident

Most Louisiana drivers are diligent about paying attention to the roadway and their surroundings. Sometimes, however, there is no way to predict what another driver on the road will do. In these cases, it may not be possible to avoid a serious or fatal accident.
