13-year-old passenger killed in Louisiana car accident

Young drivers in Louisiana often believe that they are paying sufficient attention to their surroundings and the obstacles on the roadway. Only after driving for years, however, will a driver learn what a vehicle can and cannot do under certain circumstances. For instance, experience tells drivers whether they have enough room to pull out into traffic without cutting off another vehicle and causing a car accident.

A driver only described as a juvenile was heading south toward Louisiana 92. The driver stopped at the intersection before entering. Sadly, she proceeded into the path of a westbound vehicle.

Troopers with the Louisiana State Police report that the westbound vehicle struck the driver's side of the southbound vehicle. The young driver suffered critical injuries in the crash for which she was taken to a hospital in the area. The passenger in that vehicle, a 13-year-old girl, suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

The other driver suffered injuries described as minor. He also submitted to a blood alcohol test, which did not indicate impairment. Officials say that charges may be filed, but the investigation is not yet complete.

The family of the deceased teenager may file a wrongful death claim against the party or parties deemed responsible for her death. If it is established that one or more parties negligently caused or contributed to her death in this tragic car accident, the court may award the family damages. Any monetary restitution they receive could help with the unexpected financial burdens that usually accompany a premature death.
