Louisiana man suffers catastrophic injuries in crash

Louisiana’s highways and interstates allow vehicles to travel at speeds that can be deadly for vulnerable motorcycle riders. Many riders wear helmets and other gear in an attempt to minimize any potential injuries. Even so, without the protection of the passenger compartment that other highway travelers typically enjoy, bikers easily suffer from catastrophic injuries if involved in a crash.

The Louisiana State Police recently responded to the scene of an accident on U.S. 61 involving a car and a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was traveling on the highway when a car pulled out from a side street to cross the roadway. Unfortunately, the car entered the intersection directly into the path of the motorcycle.

The 47-year-old rider attempted to avoid a collision by laying down his bike. Nevertheless, he rammed into the driver’s side of the car. Despite the fact that he was wearing a helmet, the motorcyclist rider died at the scene. The driver of the car consented to a breath test, which indicated that he had not consumed any alcohol prior to the accident. The State Police Traffic Fatality unit took over the investigation, which is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family will most likely incur a number of financial expenses and losses associated with his death from the catastrophic injuries he suffered in the accident. It may be possible for surviving family members to receive restitution for those financial burdens by pursuing a wrongful death claim. Successfully proving that their loved one died due to the negligence of another could result in an award of damages to help with the financial impact of his death.
