Louisiana State Police search for vehicle in car accident

On Behalf of | Apr 30, 2013 | Car Accidents

The Louisiana State Police are looking for any information about a light colored vehicle that is either an SUV or a truck that fled the scene of an accident recently. The car accident caused the death of the driver. The passenger that was in the car with the deceased driver suffered only minor injuries.

Preliminary details of the accident indicate that the deceased driver was traveling westbound in the left lane of Interstate 20. Another vehicle that was in the right lane swerved into her path. The deceased driver swerved to the left to avoid a collision and ended up losing control of her vehicle. The vehicle then traveled crossed the highway, off of the right shoulder of the highway and into a tree.

The unidentified vehicle that the Louisiana State Police are searching for simply kept driving. Per procedure, a toxicology sample was taken from the driver and has been sent for analysis. As they search for the other vehicle and its driver, authorities are taking this opportunity to issue a reminder to drivers about inattentive driving.

Authorities say that distracted driving is a leading cause of car accidents in our state. Anyone that gets behind the wheel of a car owes a duty of care to their passengers and to others on the road. Motorists are responsible for paying attention to everything that is going on around them. When drivers allow themselves to become distracted, the risk of a car accident can increase tremendously. This is the 12th fatal crash that Louisiana State Police Troop F has been called to so far this year.
