Fatal accident may have been caused by driver impairment

A head-on crash on June 23 left one woman dead and another in critical condition. The fatal accident happened in Louisiana on US Highway 167. According to reports, a driver from Port Barre was driving his car north in the southbound lanes of traffic at about 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. The driver hit into another car that was driving south.

Police say that the driver of the vehicle that was hit was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the fatal accident. Both drivers were transported to the hospital immediately following the collision. The woman driver of the car that was hit was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The other driver was in critical condition.

According to police, the driver who was going the wrong way caused the accident and may have been driving impaired. The police are conducting an investigation of the crash, including whether or not the driver was wearing his seatbelt. Toxicology samples were taken and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab where they will be reviewed.

This fatal accident demonstrates the dangers of driving. Charges are pending against the Louisiana driver who allegedly caused the crash. Police are continuing the investigation. The family of the woman who was killed in the incident are certainly grieving the sudden loss of their loved one. While they begin to pick up the pieces and move on with their lives, they are surely interested in the outcome of the accident investigation and must determine whether they will seek action against the driver who allegedly caused the crash.
