1-car fatal accident kills passengers, driver survives

Crashes involving only one vehicle can be just as deadly as those involving multiple vehicles. In some cases, Louisiana accident victims die because they may not be discovered until it is too late to save them. On other occasions, they are unable to escape the wreckage, and what might have been a survivable crash under different conditions becomes a fatal accident.

For example, troopers with the Louisiana State Police responded to a one-car accident in which the vehicle ultimately ended up in a canal. The crash occurred on Interstate 10 at approximately 8:30 p.m. on a recent Saturday night. Preliminary reports reveal that the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle. It then careened off the roadway and slammed into some trees.

The car only came to a rest after flipping onto its roof. This left it partially underwater in the canal. The driver managed to escape the wreckage, but the three passengers did not survive.

The extent of the driver’s injuries, along with that individual’s current condition, was not reported. Troopers are attempting to ascertain if drugs and/or alcohol were involved in the crash as they continue to investigate. Furthermore, they are asking for anyone who may have any information that could help identify the victims or about this incident to contact Louisiana State Police Troop A.

The victims’ families may exercise their right to file wrongful death claims against the surviving driver. The evidence gathered during the official investigation could help establish negligence in civil court. If negligence is proved to the court’s satisfaction, damages may be awarded, which could defray the financial impact caused by this tragic and fatal accident.
