Catastrophic injuries result from wrong-way car accident

Science tells us that when two opposing forces collide directly, the results are typically devastating. One of the most tragic examples of this scientific truth comes from head-on collisions that take place here in Louisiana. Catastrophic injuries are often the result of these crashes due to the force of the impact.

A recent accident that occurred on Interstate 20 ended in the deaths of two people and the serious injury of another. All three of the victims were in a car heading east on the roadway. As they traveled eastward, a pickup truck was heading toward them, traveling in the wrong direction.

The westbound pickup was in the eastbound lanes of the highway and crashed into the car occupied by its three unsuspecting occupants. The 20-year-old car driver, and a 19-year-old passenger succumbed to the severe injuries suffered in the crash. The other passenger survived with serious injuries. No information regarding that passenger's condition was reported.

The driver of  the pickup truck, a 41-year-old man, was taken into custody. It was not reported whether he suffered any injuries. He faces numerous charges in connection with the accident, including two counts of homicide by vehicle.

The outcome of those charges could provide evidence of his negligence in any wrongful death claims filed by the families of the deceased victims or in a personal injury claim filed by the surviving passenger. If a Louisiana judge rules that the pickup truck driver was responsible for the crash, and subsequently the catastrophic injuries suffered by all three victims, a judgment for monetary damages could be awarded. Any monies received as a result could help with the financial burdens incurred in the aftermath of this tragic accident.
