Industrial accidents are caused by any number of dangers

Industrial workers are well aware of the dangers that come with their jobs. Exposure to large machinery, toxic chemicals and other hazards could easily lead to industrial accidents. Any Louisiana worker injured by one of these hazards has legal rights.

Federal and state agencies have set up certain standards that every employer must meet in order to help ensure the safety of workers. When those regulations are ignored, the potential for a catastrophic accident is increased. Some of the accidents that can occur are explosions, toxic spills or fumes and falls. For those who work in factories or warehouses, poorly maintained equipment can create dangerous circumstances under which a worker can be killed or seriously injured.

In any case, if you are injured on the job, workers' compensation benefits are typically available to cover medical care, including any incidentals necessary for recovery -- such as medications or physical therapy. It may also be possible to receive a compensation package for income lost during the time you are unable to work due to an injury. In addition, other benefits may be sought if a permanent injury prevents you from returning to work.

It would be beneficial to seek the advice and assistance of an attorney, however, since the workers' compensation system can be a frustrating and complex process. Moreover, being unaware of all of the benefits to which you may be entitled could jeopardize your future. If you lost a loved one in a work-related accident, you could be entitled to workers' comp death benefits, and having someone advocate for you could help ensure you receive all of the benefits to which you may be entitled.

No one goes to work expecting to be injured, but it does happen. Even when a Louisiana company does its best to protect its employees, industrial accidents can occur. Knowing your rights as an injured worker or as the surviving family member of a worker killed in a workplace accident is essential.
