A car accident can change a family forever

Sadly, too many Louisiana residents know that, in mere seconds, life can change forever. The aftermath of a fatal car accident can alter the structure of a family in ways that may not be measured for years to come. Recently, a family of four became a family of two in what may have been the blink of an eye.

The family was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 447 at about 8:15 p.m. on a recent Wednesday night. At the same time, a 24-year-old was heading toward them in the opposite direction. For some reason, the northbound driver’s vehicle veered into the path of the family’s SUV. The two vehicles collided violently.

The driver of the northbound vehicle died as a result of injuries suffered in the impact. In the SUV were a husband, who was the driver, his wife and their two daughters, ages 11 and 14. The husband and the 14-year-old girl survived the crash with injuries only described as moderate. Sadly, his wife and 11-year-old daughter were fatally injured in the accident. As part of the investigation, toxicology samples were taken and sent for analysis.

As this man mourns his wife and daughter, he may exercise his right to file civil actions for the personal injuries to himself and his older daughter and for the wrongful deaths of his wife and other daughter. Establishing that the other driver was negligent could result in an award of damages payable by the estate of that driver. Monetary restitution will never make his family whole again, but it could provide him with some relief from the financial impact caused by the car accident.
