Man dies after walking away from single car accident in Louisiana

Louisiana State Police received a call in the early morning hours of Sept. 4 about an accident that appears to have only involved one vehicle. As they were responding to that call, another call came in about a pedestrian vs. car accident. Police believe that the two accidents are connected.

Preliminary reports from the Louisiana State Police postulate that the driver of the vehicle in the first crash is the same person that was struck on Interstate 10 just minutes later. In the single car crash, the vehicle left the road and ended up in some trees about four miles from the interstate. Troopers received the call about this accident at approximately 2:47 a.m.

Shortly after 3 a.m. troopers received the call about a pedestrian that was hit on the eastbound side of the highway. As part of the investigation, toxicology samples were taken to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the first accident and/or the second. There was no indication if other factors such as speed, distracted driver or even weather are suspected to have contributed to either or both accidents. The investigation may be able to determine whether the man was impaired in some way or possibly even disoriented from the previous crash.

There was no information given about the driver of the vehicle that ran the man down. However, that driver could end up facing criminal charges at the conclusion of the investigation. Even in no criminal charges are filed, the family of the victim may file a wrongful death claim against the driver to recover the financial losses they have suffered as a result of this deadly car accident.
