Louisiana man pleads not guilty in fatal car accident

A man who allegedly caused a fatal car accident has pleaded not guilty to charges of vehicular homicide. The charges stem from a fatal Louisiana car accident on May 30 that left seven people dead. According to police, the man was driving his pickup truck the wrong way on Louisiana Highway 67 when he caused the head-on collision.

A report by state troopers states that the driver's blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit at the time of the car accident. The driver was charged with seven counts of vehicular homicide. His trial is set for December. The man remains in jail on $1 million bond.

This serious car accident shows the tragic results that can occur with negligent or reckless driving. The man stands accused of serious charges and will spend time in jail awaiting trial. In the meantime, relatives of those killed in the crash are certainly grieving the tragic loss of their loved ones. If the man had chosen not to drink and drive, perhaps this tragedy could have been avoided. It was a selfish decision to get behind the wheel, and he should have thought about the other people on the road that night before he got behind the wheel.

The relatives of the victims will likely be interested in the outcome of the trial and may decide to seek monetary damages to cover expenses for their loved ones' funerals. No monetary amount can ease the pain and suffering, but it may help ease the financial burden that is often associated with this type of accident.
